Finding My Voice

Embracing Change in My Journey

My voice wasn’t just sound—it was my signature. That gritty, raspy tone carried me through every role, from the stage to Sisters to Beverly Hills, 90210. It was the spark in every conversation, the heart of every story I told. I was the ultimate Chatty Cathy, and I loved it. So when I learned that my voice—my essence—was being altered by a new symptom, my world tilted. Devastated doesn’t even cover it. It felt like losing a piece of my soul.

I’ve always thrived on connection, on weaving tales that make people laugh, cry, or lean in closer. But this change brought fear—a quiet, creeping fear that I wouldn’t be me anymore. That fear tried to silence me, to dim the fire of my voice. And let me tell you, it’s a battle to push through that.

The Power of Resilience

But here’s what I’m learning: my voice is more than sound. It’s my spirit, my stories, my refusal to fade. I’m finding new ways to be heard—through words on this blog, through the lessons I share on Preply, through every small, brave moment where I choose to show up. Fear might be loud, but I’m louder. I’m still Chatty Cathy, raspy or not, and I’m rewriting this chapter one word at a time.

Finding New Outlets

As I navigate this journey, I’ve discovered new outlets for my voice. Writing has become a sanctuary. Each word I type is a step toward reclaiming my narrative. I pour my heart into these pages, hoping to connect with others who might feel lost or unheard.

I also embrace technology. Tools that assist with communication have become invaluable. They help bridge the gap when my voice falters. I’ve learned to adapt, to find joy in the little things, and to celebrate each moment I can express myself.

Building a Supportive Community

Creating a supportive community is essential. I’ve sought out others who understand the challenges I face. Sharing experiences with those who truly get it has been a lifeline. We uplift each other, sharing stories and strategies that empower us all.

I often reflect on how important it is to build connections. Whether through social media, local groups, or online forums, the sense of belonging is vital. We all deserve to be heard, and together, we can amplify our voices.

The Journey of Acceptance

Acceptance is a journey, not a destination. Some days are easier than others. I remind myself that it’s okay to grieve the changes. It’s okay to feel frustrated. But I also choose to embrace the new aspects of my voice.

I’ve learned to celebrate the unique qualities that come with my condition. Each raspy note tells a story of resilience. It’s a reminder that I am still here, still fighting, and still sharing my truth.

The Impact of Sharing My Story

Sharing my story has become a powerful tool. It allows me to connect with others and raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. My journey is not just mine; it’s a collective experience.

Through my blog, I aim to shed light on the realities of living with Ataxia and similar conditions. I want to foster understanding and acceptance. By sharing my experiences, I hope to inspire others to find their voices, too.

Conclusion: A Voice That Matters

In the end, my voice matters. It’s a testament to my journey, my struggles, and my triumphs. I refuse to let fear dictate my narrative. I will continue to speak out, to share, and to connect.

So, here I am, still Chatty Cathy, embracing every moment. I invite you to join me on this journey. Together, let’s celebrate our voices, our stories, and the power of connection.

Let’s make a difference, one word at a time.

This was incredibly moving. You can feel how deeply connected you are to your voice — not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too. Losing or changing something that has always felt like part of your identity is such a profound grief, and you described that so beautifully.

What stood out most to me was the line, “Fear might be loud, but I’m louder.” That honestly says everything about resilience. Even through fear, loss, and change, your spirit still comes through so strongly in your writing.

And honestly, your voice is still here. It’s in your storytelling, your honesty, your humor, and the way you connect with people so openly. This piece felt very human and very brave.
